K2 Moto Men's In-Line Skates Review

I got into in-line skating because I wanted someway to practice and stay in shape for alpine skiing. I know that the two sports are not exactly the same, but the leg-work and some of the techniques are compatible (e.g., "snow plow" or wedge stopping). I purchased the K2 Exo Alums, K2 Motos, and K2 Moto Extremes. I knew that I would send two back. First, the K2 Moto had the best fit. They fit correctly relevant to shoe size. Second, they have the quick lace system that allows for convenient tightening and removal of the skate. Neither of the other two skates had this feature. Third, compared to the K2 Exo Alum the Moto had a smoother ride. Maybe because the K2 Moto has IQ7 bearings while the Alums just have ABEC 5. The bearings on the Moto extreme were better, rated at IQ9. However, trying to turn in the K2 Moto Extreme was very difficult. If you like to make tight turns or skate on crowded sidewalks or pathways, then I would not recommend the K2 Moto Extremes. But, if you primarily skate straight and for very long distances I would recommend the Moto Extremes. But, the turning radius is much longer than for the Motos. Further, the Motos are plenty fast as it is. One push will send you gliding many yards. Fifth, this is the first pair of skates that I've owned with a Hi-Lo system. I like it. I believe the Hi-Lo system (84mm-80mm) puts you in nice forward leaning position that is both comfortable and powerful. Overall, this is a great skate. You simply can't go wrong with it.

K2 Moto Extreme Men's Cross Training Skate Review

I got the Moto Xs for two reasons: (1) many patches of rough asphalt on neighborhood streets and cracks in sidewalks, and (2) speed. The Moto Xs deliver a MUCH smoother ride over "eroded" asphalt and sidewalk cracks, butonly if you shift your c/g aft to use the rear 100s more. The Moto Xs are substantially faster than the 4x80s. The Moto Xs require more anticipation and more finesse when carving high speed turns. If you do street skating, you're going to have significantly less stress about small stones, eroded asphalt, and sidewalk/street transitions.

The front 90s are key to turn-in, but the rear 100s do the heavy lifting (push, carve, traverse rough areas). The OE wheels are 85A, so going to a softer wheel might help the transition to learning to turn with larger wheels ... but that would mean buying new wheels.

My son had a pair of Heely's a few years ago that lasted a reasonable amount of time. This model, however, did not do as well. One day as he was heelying through the store, the center metal part simply came out of the wheel. Heely does not offer any assistance by telephone and replacement wheels are almost 15.00.

K2 Exo Inline Skates Review

These were purchased as a replacement skate for my Salomon 80MM skates. Salomon stopped building skates in the US which means you can't get a replacement brake pad anymore. MAJOR bummer.Anyway, I purchased the EXO's and have too say they are great! The boot fits very well and true to size. I usually wear a 10.5, but the size 10 was perfect. The 78mm wheels were smaller than my 80mm ones, but I hardley noticed the difference. The skates roll very smooth and handling was very predictable.
I use my skates as a cross training activity for cross country skiing so they see use all year long, even in winter. The boots are warm when you wear a thicker sock, but nice and cool with a thinner sock in the spring/summer months. The only drawback were the stock wheels. Too soft and they did not last long. Consider upgrading to a hyper 78/82A hardness and you wil get a little more speed out of them.

K2 SPORTS Men's Moto 80 Inline Skates Review
